Weeks ending 24 June & 1 July 2018
Friday (June 22) afternoon we went over to Kahn Market, an upscale shopping district, and then met Elisa Pulido, a friend from the Plano 9th Ward, for Friday services at the Judah Hyam Synagogue. Elisa brought along six of her fellow students from the Jain Institute. It was great to see her.
Saturday morning we had our English class with Dinay Singh, Boban John and Vinay Singh.
I spent most of Saturday with Aradhana Paul preparing food for a prospective missionary
activity we were in charge of. She is a
trained chef and makes a mean brownie.
In
the evening we had 12 youth, ages 16 to 24, over to the apartment for a
discussion and refreshments. Sunday we
had 25 more. We met that night in the
Stake Center next door because our power went out right at 5, when we were to
begin. It was all good. The young people are impressive—bright,
articulate and outgoing.

We had Elders Drummond and Middleton over Monday morning. They used our computers to email home. After downing several of Jeanette’s homemade cinnamon rolls we went with them to the INA Market. In the evening FHE was held at the Peck’s apartment, two floors above us. It was a goodbye for President and Sister Hodges. They are tired and I know are looking forward to a well-deserved rest.

We saw the Hodges off on Tuesday morning. Here they are with their driver, Anil Andrews.

Wednesday morning, we went with the Smiths to a "Birds of Delhi" photography exhibit at the India Habitat Centre.
This is the view of the Delhi skyline from the top of the IHC. The small dome on the right is the Baha'i Lotus Temple. From there we took a short walk to the Lodi Gardens, a n 90 acre part that contains tombs and a mosque built by the Lodis who ruled parts of northern India and Punjab and the Khyber Paktunkhwa province to modern Pakistan from 1451 to 1526.

Afterwards we found the “American Diner” on the grounds of the International Habitat Centre.
It was right out of “Happy Days” with retro music (only back to the 1960s), good
sandwiches and, of course, milkshakes.
Thursday we enjoyed reading the Book of Mormon with these two fellows before the English class at Malviya Nagar Ward. Reza is a Farsi speaking refugee from Afghanistan and “KP” is a Hindu.
Our class this week also included some people from Somalia. They all want to learn English and are grateful for the free classes. They even all stayed for the spiritual message and the boy in the middle gave the closing prayer.
President and Sister Hansen arrived on Saturday evening with their two sons.

WOW we found your India blog! The pictures look great and you two are courageous!
ReplyDeleteWhat percentage of Indian's speak English? Which Indian dialect did you learn to speak in the MTC?
I love the long blue sari (?) you are wearing Jeanette -- looks so comfortable. What are your responsibilities in your mission besides teaching English?
