Week Ending 17 February 2019

This has been a slower, more relaxed week.  We were able to catch up on much of our work and Jeanette led another successful mission prep activity for the India New Delhi Stake.

Udayan Girls Residence - where we spend most Tuesday afternoons for an hour or so interacting with these wonderful children.  They are a joy.  This week we had them making Valentines and were overwhelmed by their creativity and detailed work.

Wednesday evening local market with Jeanette seeking bargains on everything from beets to earrings!

As we were attending English class on Thursday evening (Valentines Day), we celebrated the next evening by going out to dinner at Haveli Dharampura in Old Delhi.  "Haveli" means a traditonal townhouse or mansion in India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.  To quote from the website:  Haveli in Dharampura its distinctive features, attributed as Late Mughal style, though part of it is a later addition in the 20th century. During Mughal and late Mughal period, a large number of havelis were built by the courtiers. Historical references suggest that construction of the haveli dates to 1887 AD. It was originally designed to have a mixed-use pattern i.e both residential and commercial. Shops on the lower ground floor that open towards the street and the remaining floors designed as residence portray the mixed use of haveli. The ground floor with a grand entrance and first floor were constructed at the same period, while second floor clearly seems to be a later addition at much later stage in the mid 20th century.

I did not inhale!

Magnificent view from rooftop.

Traditional Kathak dance for entertainment of guests.  We have learned to love this dance and the depth of Indian vocal and dance traditions.

View looking down into the interior from the rooftop.

And the week concluded with a raucous mission prep activity led off by Jeanette's wild game of Book of Mormon pictionary.
