Week Ending August 18, 2019
We enjoyed many gatherings with friends this week. These special people enrich our lives.
We celebrated August birthdays on Tuesday for Moshmi and Sonu. The girls loved the carrot cake cupcakes.
Thursday was India's 73rd Independence Day. We celebrated with friends at home making baby quilts. Here are Sister Toon and Mona Rath, Relief Society President in the Lajpat Ward tying.
Sister Broadbent, Sister Hansen and Sister Pandey. were turning and stitching the quilts. To date we have delivered twenty of the projected one hundred to the government hospital in Rishikesh.
Saturday we had the Pitampura YSAs over for dinner and games. They are always so fun to be with.
Some old friends from the Malviya Nagar Ward, Justin Nathan, Dinay Singh and his girlfriend Angali also stopped by.
We said goodby to Depanshu Yadaf (seated in front of the cake) who is leaving for the India Bengaluru mission next week.
Our good friend Spencer Heilner came into town early Sunday morning. We attended the Vasant Vihar Ward and then went to the Qutub Minar, the real "Old Delhi." It was great to see him. The 239.5 foot red sandstone tower (behind us) was built in the 13th century as a victory monument.

This goat survived Eid. We saw him sipping along a busy Delhi street.
Motorcycle herding cow and calf on our street, Poorvi Marg.

The Qutub Complex includes many other historic buildings including the Might of Islam Mosque built in 1193, the first mosque in Delhi after the Islamic conquest of India. It was constructed from the ruins of 27 Hindu and Jain temples.
Delhi is home to many birds. The Rose-ringed Parakeet is a common one and one of our favorites. This one added a splash of color to an ancient Hindu temple in the Qutub Minar complex.
