Wednesday, October 2, was Gandhi’s birthday (Gandhi Jayantri) and a national holiday.  We attended a prayer service outside the room where he lived from 1 April 1946 to 1 June 1947 on the premises of the Valmiki Temple.

The room and the service were simple.  It was an appropriate way to remember such an extraordinary man.

After the singing we sprinkled rose petals at his seat.

From the Valmiki Mandir we went to the Indira Gandhi International Center for the Arts to a craft fair featuring specially chosen artisans from all over India.  Our favorite part was this band from Gujarat.

Their headscarves are one long piece of fabric twisted and wrapped very carefully.

Grant flew to Pune with President Hansen Wednesday afternoon where the President spoke at the World Parliament of Science, Religion and Philosophy held at MIT Peace University.

Pictured above at the Westin are Ron and Michael Gunnell, 2 ladies from Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Grant and President Hansen.
